A cellulite body wrap is a safe and natural treatment which uses a body mask of algae, seaweed, mud, clay or cream on the target areas of the body. The body mask is wrapped with cloth for at least 20 minutes. Once the mask and cloth is removed, a soothing and re-hydrating lotion is usually applied.
Body wraps are also known as body cocoons or body masks.
How It Works
A body wrap works to eliminate cellulite by drawing out the impurities in the body which cause the skin to age and cellulite to develop. It is important to note that this is not weight lost from water or skin tightening caused by dehydration of the skin. The wraps draw out toxins in the body and replace them with natural and healthy minerals through permeation of the skin, the body’s largest organ. The results last a long period of time provided you do not gain weight or consume excess toxins through such things as smoking, alcohol, medications or artificial sweeteners.
A single treatment results in a smoother and tighter appearance, and a reduction of between 6 and 20 inches around the body. The more times you perform a body wrap the faster and better the results – however, it is recommended that you wait 24 hours between treatments.
The actual formulation of the body mask will vary from spa to spa and there are a range of different types depending on what results you are looking for. Body wraps that use seaweed, mud, clay or algae are designed to draw toxins and impurities from the body. Wraps that use shea butter or other rich lotions are designed to hydrate and soften the skin. Caffeine is often used in cellulite body wraps due to its anti-cellulite properties.
The areas where a cellulite body wrap can be effective include the neck, calves, thighs, waist, hips, buttocks, loose upper and lower arm areas, and stomach. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding shouldn’t have wraps applied to their stomach area or breasts.
Body wraps can be professionally conducted in a beauty spa or at home using a home kit that you can purchase easily through the internet.
Body Wraps Conducted in Beauty Spas
When a body wrap is conducted in a spa, the beauty therapist will often begin with an exfoliation of your skin using a dry brush or salt scrub. The body mask is then applied.
The body wrap is left on the body for about 20 minutes. Typically, the beauty therapist will leave you alone in the room but some beauty spas offer massages or other beauty treatments while you wait for the treatment to work. When the body wrap is removed, you skin is washed of the body mask and a lotion is applied to moisturize the skin.
Body Wraps At Home
A coffee and cellulite body wrap is a simple and inexpensive way to conduct a wrap at home.
However, for more professional-like results there are body wrap kits that you can purchase through the internet. These home kits contain the necessary body masks and strips of cloth for you to conduct a body wrap in the comfort of your own home.
In a beauty spa, it is possible to target the whole body. With most home kits you do not have enough body mask or cloth to do this and so you have to focus on specific areas for each individual treatment. Another downside is that these kits don’t often have the range of minerals or lotions that are available in a beauty spa and so you can’t create a large selection of body masks for different types of applications. However, it is possible and very easy to purchase these minerals separately.
The Verseo body wrap is one home-kit that I highly recommend. You can read a review of this body wrap here.
The results will vary from woman to woman but you can expect to lose up to 6 to 20 inches, depending on the part of the body treated. In addition to losing inches, most women notice a reduction in cellulite and an improvement in the tone of the skin from the first session onwards. You will get the best results immediately from the treatment but you can also continue to improve up to two days after the wrap.
In addition to removing cellulite, wraps can also eliminate stretch marks and tone and tighten loose skin.
Generally, you can use a body wrap one per week to one per month to get down in size or every couple of months to maintain your gains.

Body wraps were recently featured on the “The Racheal Ray Show” with Robin McGraw, wife of Dr. Phil. Note that the jumping on the trampoline isn’t required.
